Canadian born Julian Dufort was intrigued with the art of photography from a young age and gained a great sense of enjoyment from flicking through old family albums.
After finishing art school in Canada, Dufort moved to Los Angeles where he started assisting and working on movie sets. He cites the cinematic world as one of the greatest influences in his photographic work.
Whilst in L.A. Dufort met Annie Leibovitz who after some time offered him a job in New York. He moved to Brooklyn and worked and traveled with Annie for several years. After that he went on to work with Philip Lorca diCorcia. Both of these work opportunities he considers to be very educational and important to his development as a photographer.
All his life Dufort has wanted to photograph people, to have the privilege to step into his subjects’ lives, even for a brief moment is something that he continues to cherish.
